On this tour you will encounter Tønsberg as the city itself chose to show itself in the Middle Ages: a castle surrounded by a ring wall on top of the mountain, the sea below and a longship dominating the waves.
It is a motif that brings together land and sea in one sign, and one that feels right at home in Norway's oldest city. Around the image are the words as they actually read: "This is the seal of the Tunsberg people." Traditionally, the seal is also associated with solemn occasions, such as the letter of homage for King Håkon Magnusson the Younger at Bohus in 1344.
