Original - Trondheim
A few meters from Kristianstens Fortress – built in 1682 – lies a manhole cover that bears Trondheim's coat of arms like a small story in cast iron. Here, in the meeting between Tyholt's heights and the city's old defenses, the symbols take on an extra seriousness: traces of history beneath everyday steps.
The motif shows the bishop with mitre and crosier, standing in the church, and the king with crown and scales, standing in the castle. The scales point towards justice, while the three heads at the bottom can be read as the city council – an image of how faith, power and community have been woven together in the city's identity.
