St. Halvard is the patron saint of Oslo, and the motif on this manhole cover points back to an old tale of courage and protection. According to tradition, he was killed with arrows when he tried to help a persecuted woman. The millstone and arrows follow him as clear signs in the motif – both of what happened, and of the memory that remained in the city.
This signed original print was printed from a manhole cover borrowed from the Oslo Municipality Water and Sewage Department, and completed at the Gallery Workshop at Hegdehaugsveien 12 in 2023.
