From Horten, facing the Oslofjord, the municipal coat of arms carries a condensed story about the city: a two-part shield where an armored ship in front of a castle points back to Horten as the main naval base, while a five-petaled rose refers to the city's gardens. Above the shield lies the crown as part of the coat of arms - a small but clear sign of city status and tradition, as it has been used since the coat of arms was approved in 1907 and later continued as the municipal coat of arms.
