The swan is one of the most recognizable symbols of Gjøvik: it is featured in the municipal coat of arms and points to the city's nickname "Mjøsa's hvite by". In European tradition, the swan is often associated with purity and beauty, and it is also used as a symbol of fidelity.

When the motif meets the manhole cover, the symbol becomes more everyday: a calm metal shape, made to withstand foot traffic and weather, yet still bearing identity. The original print is signed.
