Original - Bergen
In Lille Øvregaten, where the cobblestones are close together and the alleys sneak between the old wooden houses, a slight maritime echo appears in the streetscape. Here in Bergen's old city center, it is easy to feel the proximity of the city between mountains and sea – and that is precisely why this motif fits so well underfoot.
The manhole cover, one of Bergen's so-called "bekkalokks", bears a sailing ship with Bryggen and the Fløybanen as clear reference points. It is an everyday object that simultaneously contains the city's story: the harbor, the wooden houses, the heights and the movement up towards the view and weather. The original print is signed, and preserves the traces of the surface as it actually met the paper.
